Product Description
Want the transitional look of timeless Oak newels and handrails with the modern aesthetic of simple, round balusters? This kit is for you! Even better, we have all the items grouped for you, making the ordering process seamless.
This collection of products is broken down by section, allowing you to choose how much is needed for each run. We recommend one newel for every 5-6 feet of railing. As an example, if you have 10 feet of railing, you would add two, 5 FT sections of railing to your cart; one section with 2 newels (full or half) and another with one newel. Full newels are used for open runs of railing; half newels are a decorative termination at the end of your system, most often against a wall.
The product shown in this kit has a Clearcoat 5 sheen Finish. However, you can select any finish you would like for the entire system.
The sections contain the following products:
- 4240 4″ Solid Box Newels, Red Oak
- 4240 2″ Solid Split Box Newels, Red Oak
- 6004 Graspable Red Oak Handrail
- 7038 Red Oak Rectangle Rosette
- 5/8” Round Modern Aluminum Balusters, with a powder coat black finish
Installation Guide
We recently partnered with Brent of BYOTools, showcasing the installation process for this kit. We highly recommend following his in-depth installation tutorial on YouTube, “The Ultimate Guide to Modern Railing Remodel“!
Mounting System
When installing your 4240 Box Newel, you will need the Sure-Tite Newel Fastening System. Follow our Sure-Tite Installation Guide to establish a sturdy and secure fit. The 4240 Box Newel may be installed either on the surface of the stair tread or beside the tread. Due to their precise edges, we have found that Box Newels look best on a square starting step.
Handrail Attachment
Join handrail to your 4240 Box Newel using a rail bolt kit. Many configurations allow handrail to mount directly into the newel; however, if your handrail is joining with your box newel on a rake, you may also require a gooseneck handrail attachment.
Splitting Box Newels
In order to maintain a consistent appearance when handrail must terminate into a wall, we offer Split Box Newels. Attach the partial newel to the wall, and your handrail can be secured like normal. If you would like your Box Newel split in half, please select “Split in Half” in the drop-down menu above.
